OUR SEASON PLANS
WHAT WILL A SEASON FROM NEW WORKS LOOK LIKE?
In order to inspire & grow theatre - one has to see theatre. One of the biggest problems in underserved communities is that theatre is seen as a luxury and as something inaccessible - in both content & prices of tickets.
We want to refocus what theatre is to those younger underserved kids and show them theatre can be a medium to express the struggles of their generation. That is why New Works is dedicated to putting on New Works or New Adaptations of Classical Works. The most important thing is accessibility and that is seen in our season breakdown
New Works Seasons will look like this:
Two Original Productions
New Works will put on two completely original plays written by young playwright of our time / in our city. We will either have these written before hand or these will be fleshed out versions of plays created in our education programs by other San Antonio natives.
One Original Adaptation
Taking things from film, novels, or shows has been an amazing and accessible way to get into theatre for younger people like us. In much the same way we want to adapt some different and exciting shows and bring them to the stage - with each of them having their own twist.
One Old Work Done Anew
Finally, to emphasize how theatre is a form where you can breath life into older texts. We will be putting on a classic play in a new way - attempting to make Shakespeare, Chekhov, or other classic plays feel new to younger audiences. This should show them that there is so much more to the classics than just being classic - they are compelling shows that can easily be related to at any time.
